The Hunger Games

The hunger games Review

I can't put it better words than they do. So, the main set-up throughout the three books would go like-
"In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and once girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weight survival against humanity and life against love."

It'a great thriller and the plot was not quite what I expected it to be. Well let's say am a teeny-bit obsessed with monarchies and dynasties (only in the world of fiction though). The books were amazing, yes but i felt the characters could use a little more detailing. I had a hard time understanding Katniss at the beginning but then everything started to add up but really slowly. I have to give it to the author for Rue and Katniss's relationship with her.  The part where Rue dies, was horrible. I thought it was destined to happen after learning she was the same age as Primrose(Katniss's 12 year-old sister). But later in the games I was beginning to feel she actually had a chance. But...the unfortunate still happened. Katniss covers her body in flowers and sings to her until she dies. This was her first act of rebellion against the capital.

Haymitch's was a hopeless drunkard and a useless bag of bones. But, it all made sense when we come to know that he lost everybody he had and the hunger games that he played still plagued him. Gale was an important character throughout he was Katniss's hunting partner and the only person she could consider a friend back at district 12.

Moving to Peeta, it was really sad that Katniss could not love him for all he did for her. But, that was what made Katniss different from other female lead roles. Honestly, I read  the first few chapters of "The Hunger Games " deadpanned. But then , Peeta's character struck me. Katniss and Peeta play out a romance to trick the sponsors and gamemakers. It must have been incredibly heart-wrenching for him to do so when Katniss was only following thier mentor Haymitch's advice. It would change in the future (of course, it had to). Both of them  manage to win the 74th games with their tricks, but only to be sent again into the 75th games.

Peeta was skilled with words and painting but he was  naive. That too changes in the later books after Katniss is rescued  from the 75th games and realises that the districts have rebelled and she is their symbol of the rebellion the mockingjay. But Peeta had been taken in by the capital and district 12 was gone. It was reduced to ashes just like district 13. But district 13 was still operational only that they had gone underground and they had been waiting for a chance to overthrow the capital.

They do rescue Peeta but he had been hijacked and believed now that Katniss was his enemy and tried to strangled her when she ran up to meet him. They did overthrow the capitol but Primrose dies in the attempt. Later during President Snow's(Leader of the Capitol) execution, she learns that  president Coin (Leader of District 13  & the Rebellion) was responsible for it, and Katniss turns her aim on her killing her on spot.

Cinna was by far my favourite character in the series and he didn't deserve the end he got. He made wonderful attires for them both. Effie Trinket in my opinion was a stupid  lady with pink hair and Caesar Flickerman another interesting character without whom the hunger games would have not existed.

May the odd be ever in your favor

Now that the war was over and Peeta was recuperating slowly. Katniss realised that she didn't need Gale she needed Peeta

“That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.”So after when he whispers, “You love me.
Real or not real?”
I tell him, “Real”

They are still haunted by the games but they live on ahead to get married and have two children who will never meet the fate their parents met.

Note: Now I may have missed out a lot of important stuff above as I        didn't read it with as much much fervor as it deserved.

Now am not leaving without imposing some of my favourite lines on you guys!!!

"Katniss, the girl on fire, has left behind her flickering flames and bejeweled gowns and soft candlelight frocks. She is as deadly as fire itself."

"I've spent so much time making sure I don't underestimate my opponents that I've forgotten It's just as dangerous to overestimate them as well." ~Katniss Everdeen

The fire burns brighter than the flame.

"FIRE IS CATCHING!
AND IF WE BURN,
YOU BURN WITH US!"
~Katniss on Camera to the Capitol.

Poison, the perfect weapon for a snake.
                                                                ~Katniss on President Snow

"You're still trying to protect me. Real or not real", he whispers.
"Real" I answer. It seems to require more explanation, "Because that's what you and I do. Protect each other."

Real or not real? Am on fire.
A creature as unquenchable as the sun.

Dead, but not allowed to die. Alive, but as good as dead. So alone that anyone, anything no matter how loathsome would be welcome.

Gradually, I'm forced to accept who I am. A badly burned girl with no wings.

“You're a painter. You're a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces.”

~Katniss to Peeta after being hijacked

Fire burns brighter in darkness.

That's all for this post guys....

Until we meet again!!!
