WARRIOR

A girl ordinary;

But with a story that ran deep.

 

Everybody found in her

A picture of determination and steel.

But only those who stopped to see

found the broken girl beneath.

 

She hesitated a bit and;

Let her mask slip.

Those that caught her then

pulled and prodded at her strings.

 

They dug deep into the cracks

For their roots to hold on tight

They used her misery to drive her

Thinking that she’d never know.

 

They gave her scars that can’t be seen

And wounds that couldn’t bleed

She spread warmth everywhere she went

But somehow the chill in her ran bone-deep.

 

She watched in terror

As all slipped from her fingers

Everything that she held on to tight;

her heart hardened that night.

 

She walked with the wind

And it whispered words of advice

She swam against the tide

And it jabbed at her wounds in kind.

 

She was obstinate

But rarely wrong

Experience had taught her well enough.

Now that she knew what was wrong.

 

She let her puppeteer’s hold her reins

Played along but never let them see

She wove webs so intricate

A perfect truth that lied to them all.

 

Wind that whispered

and steel that never broke.

A broken girl with a determined soul

Against her they never stood a chance.

 

They underestimated her.

Smart as they were,

They never saw her coming.

Prejudiced as they were.

 

Her words sliced like knives on skin

Her eyes sparked with malicious gleam

The storm beneath her skin

Was now unleashed.

 

None of them escaped her wrath

Then she forgot who she was.

She tied up all the loose ends that day

And never returned to that abyss again.

 

She brought solace to many

Now that she was free

She teased the waters

As she flew with the wind.
